Beacon (“the app,” “we,” “us”) helps you set daily and weekly goals and keep them in sight. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights. The short version: your goals are yours. We don’t sell data, we don’t run ads, and we never share the content of your goals with anyone.
Who we are
Beacon is operated by Artem Kurtiak. Contact for privacy questions and requests: artem@kurtiak.org.
What we collect
Account data — your email address and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the name those providers share. Used solely to create and secure your account. Stored with our database provider, Supabase.
Your goals — the titles, notes, dates, and completion state of the goals you create. Stored so your goals sync to your account. Protected by row-level security: the database itself makes it impossible for one user to read another’s goals.
Usage analytics (PostHog) — anonymous-by-default events like “a goal was created” or “a reminder was enabled,” linked to a random user ID. The content of your goals — titles and notes — is never included. Used to understand which features help people and which don’t.
Crash and error reports (Sentry) — technical diagnostics (device model, OS version, what failed) when the app crashes or an operation errors, tagged with your user ID but never with goal content. Used to fix problems.
On your device only — reminder preferences and a snapshot of today’s goal titles for your home-screen widget. This never leaves your phone and is erased on sign-out.
What we don’t do
- No selling or renting of personal data — ever
- No advertising or ad tracking of any kind
- No reading of your goal content for analytics, AI training, or anything else
- No data collection from children under 13 (the app is not directed at them)
Legal bases (EEA / UK)
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data to perform our contract with you (providing the app), and where needed on the basis of our legitimate interests in securing the service, fixing bugs, and improving product quality without reading goal content. You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise rights, email artem@kurtiak.org.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Enabling them is optional and they can be turned off anytime in the app’s Settings or your system notification settings.
Third-party services
We use processors that help us run Beacon. They process data only for us and under their own privacy terms:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting
- PostHog — product analytics (no goal content)
- Sentry — crash and error reporting (no goal content)
- Apple / Google — if you choose those sign-in methods
Deleting your data
Open Settings → Delete account inside the app. This permanently and immediately erases your account and every goal from our database. There is no grace period and no backup copy we keep. Analytics and crash data are retained per PostHog’s and Sentry’s schedules and are not tied to your deleted account content. You can also request deletion by emailing artem@kurtiak.org.
Data location & security
Data is stored with Supabase (Postgres) over encrypted connections (TLS). Passwords are hashed; we never see them. Sign in with Apple/Google means we never see those credentials at all.
International transfers
Our service providers may process data in the United States or other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by those providers (such as standard contractual clauses).
Children
Beacon is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact artem@kurtiak.org and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the “Last updated” date on this page and, where appropriate, note the change in the app. Continued use after changes means acceptance of the updated policy.
